Trapdoor Stock with Picatinny Hinge

SKU: MA-32775

The Trapdoor Stock is designed with original AR-180 styling and the additional bonus of ample storage space within. Overall length of pull on typical AR-15 style rifles with picatinny mounting is 13.75″, similar to that on the original AR-180 rifle. Weight of the polymer stock itself is 11.3 ounces.

Made from a heavily fiber reinforced polymer the stock buttplate is easily hinged down by pressing a spring loaded plunger on top with a rifle bullet point or small tool.  With 8″ of clear length from front to back internally a full size AR-15 cleaning kit with three piece steel cleaning rod will easily fit inside, and the interior width of 1.050″ allows 1.0″ diameter oil bottles to fit.  The buttplate measures 1.325″ wide by 4.5″ high and gives plenty of surface for soft felt recoil.

Hinges are supplied to Manticore Arms by Midwest Industries, made of steel, and weigh 6.9 ounces.  The hinge can be set up to allow the stock to fold left or right.  Hardware and allen wrenches for installation are included.

(Please note the stock is not considered watertight, but you can easily put your supplies in a plastic baggie to keep them dry in event of a solid dunking!)

Very high quality part. Serious piece of equipment.

Amazing product! Very strong and true to the original design. Hit all the marks of a 180 retro-build. You won’t be disappointed.

Solid stock overall, i absolutely love the internal storage. This one is going on a Jakl build. (Just to be different.) I found a bit of freeplay/wobble in the locking mechanism when the stock was deployed. To fix this I drilled and tapped a 10/32 hole, inserted a screw and filed it to fit, This successfully eliminated the excessive tolerance in the gap between the receiver plate and the folding side plate at the rear of the hinge assembly. The same could also be accomplished with some minor tack welds and some fitting. I also mounted a qd sling swivel at the lower left corner of the stock. If you do this…get it as far back as possible to ensure receiver clearance of the sling swivel when folded. Someone who is not mechanically inclined may have to seek a gunsmith or contact Manticore customer service for assistance if they have issues they can’t fix. No regrets for this purchase even with the required tweaking to get optimal performance.

Thank you for the review! The hinge is actually made by Midwest Industries and purchased and supplied by us with the stock and should not have any play in it. So far this is the only one we have heard of with any “play” in, none of the ones we have used in house have ever had that issue. If you have any issues let us know and we can always replace the hinge if there is a QC issue with it!
